Buddy Gross hauled home the trophy after the FLW Tour’s 2nd stop of 2019 on beautiful Lake Toho after catching nearly 86-lbs of bass over the four-day event. Along with winning his 2nd FLW Tour title and the lucrative first place check, Gross earned an extra $500 of LEER “Cover Cash” for his efforts.
Gross primarily used a 5-inch Scottsboro Tackle Co. Swimbait rigged on a 3/8-ounce Owner Beast Flashy Swimmer with a meaty 8/0 hook to load his Bullet Boat live wells with fat Florida bass. One key offshore spot produced nearly every bass Gross weighed-in.
“I found the spot in practice using a swim-jig with a Zoom Z-Craw – kind of a brim imitation,” Gross said. “I had no idea the area was as good as it ended up being when I found it. I knew I could catch a few there, but I was shocked when that one little area produced around 20-lbs of bass every single day.”
The presence of hydrilla as well as both post-spawn and pre-spawn fish created all the right ingredients for a special area. The morning bite proved crucial, the bass seemed to be active until around 10a.m. each day. Gross is all-too familiar with targeting bass in offshore hydrilla patches, and is no stranger to Leer truck caps either.
“Honestly I bet I’ve owned 10 Leer caps in my life,” Gross said. “Since joining the FLW Tour, this is the 3rd Leer cap I’ve owned and won money through Cover Cash with, but I’ve owned Leer products since the 80s. Nowadays the LEER Locker has become my right hand man. I keep everything from spare reels, extra electronics parts, lures, and even tools up there and I absolutely love it. Leer makes great products and the “Cover Cash” contingency program makes my truck cover choice a no brainer.”
Gross can count on his Leer truck cap to keep his equipment organized and protected, and has been able to count on the “Cover Cash” program to earn him some extra coin each year, too.
